"Cable Modem and a hub"
Ok I have gone and bought two addition IP's from my provider, but when I hook the cable modem up the way they say I should it does not work. They tell me to plug the modem into the uplink port on my hub, and set the computers to get an IP from their DHCP server. The problem is when I hook the modem up, I get nothing. It does not register on the hub, and none of the computer can get an IP. If you have any suggestions, please post here or e-mail me.

Hardware:
addtron 4-port hub w/ uplink port

You might need a crossover cable between the hub and your modem. Don't know for sure but it could be worth looking into.

yes you will need a crossover when connecting to the uplink port on a hub.

If its like my router, it takes ONLY a single IP address, and the router software allocates addresses dynamically (can do static also) to all the PCs on the internal circuit. I have three connected on a single external (and dynamically allocated) IP address.

I am running a linksys router conected to a cable modem.

You definitely need a crossover cable (orange and green pairs are reversed) when using an uplink port. Unlike a router's wan port wherein you can use a regular straight-through cable. If you have a couple of static ip addresses, why let your isp's dhcp server provide the ips? You can do so manually in your tcp/ip settings along with your default gateway.

In certain cases a crossover cable would be needed but a straight throught cable works also in the uplink port of the hub. That's how I have my network setup.
