"Speed loss of internet connection when networked"
I recently got a cable internet connection on one computer and had great download speeds, but then I bought a netgear 4 port cable/dsl router gateway RP614. I then intalled a linksys NIC into each of the computers and connected them to the router. Then router to modem. Everything seems to be working fine. I can get onto the internet from both computers, but the speed of the connection seems half the speed of my original connection on just the one computer. This is all new to me, so any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

the speed "seems" to be about half...hmm.

try upgrading the firmware on your router if there is a newer release. Also reinstall the tcp/ip setting on the slow computer. Both of those have been known to do the trick.

CAT5 cable will deliver the best speed if not already being used. One contributing factor could be (but in most cases not) that since both computers are sharing the same connection with the bandwith shared, you may experience a decrease in speed if there is "heavy surfing". Again, probably not.

that is a latency issue with cable modems.

One reason DSL is touted as better. I prefer cable for the speed. Pretty much just something you have to deal with as far as I understand the issue.
