I've just moved into a house wired for phones with Category 3 (I think) wire. Has four twisted pair. Since the phones only use two twisted pair, can I use the other two twisted pair for an ethernet network ? Even though the RJ45 jack has four twisted pair, I thought it only actually used two twisted pair, one pair for send, and one pair for receive, I've just got to get the pins right. After all, didn't 10baseT originally use cat 3 wire ? Another message board response thought I'd be okay at 10 mbs and below. Also, I'm only running the wire about 20-30 ft. max. Wondering if anyone out there has successfully done this. Beats pulling wire and HPN solutions.
