"Road Runner~connecting 2 computers to it"
Hi all.I have RR,and called them to see about getting RR for my daughters computer she just got.Now I don't know anything about this.So here it goes. They at RR told me I needed to get a "hub",and connect that and then call them back. For some silly reason,I don't think that is all I need,is it?..lol..Our computers are not in the same room. Can anyone tell me what all I need to get.I will also get a second ISP addy.I'm just confused. They told me to call them back after I get the hub all hooked up.Well I don't even know what one is or even how to begin to hook it up.Our computers both have ethhernet cards in them, and we have USB ports(I don't know if this is of any help or not.We both run windows XP home edition.Okay,phewww..thats alot. Thanks to anyone that can help me and explain it in simple terms.I will wait to hear from someone before I purchase anything.

Lynn-

You have a few options on how you want to get the second computer online. I would suggest buying a router and that way you will not need to pay RR for a second IP address each month. Also, a router is the best firewall protection you can have without any effort.

Along with the router you will need some cat5 ethernet cables to connect your second computer. Hopefully the other computer is not too far away from the first? If it is I would suggest a wireless router, however you would also need to purchase a wireless NIC. Forget about usb you don't need it.

Here is a link to buy.com http://www.buy.com/retail/searchresults.asp?search_store=1&qu=router&loc=101 I just searched for router and it gave me a big list. I personally have a SMC router however I have heard great things about linksys. It looks like routers will run you around $50 or so. The manuals that come with the routers are very helpful and will lead you through the set up process. You can also look through manuals online by going to linksys.com if you have questions before you buy, etc.

If you have any more questions feel free to email me.
