"Using Netmeeting or WebCam from home network"
Can anyone please tell me how to accomplish the following? I would like to use VNC or PCAnywhere to control my PC over the Internet from another location. I would also like to host a Netmeeting conference or allow others to view the picture from my webcam so that we can have a video phone type of service established. The problem is that I have a 3Com cable modem and a Linksys Broadband Router, that connect to Cablevision via DHCP. I know that my IP address is not static, but I can live with that because it does not change frequently.

The problem is that my local IP addresses are all on a subnet (i.e 192.168.100.x), and I have the cable modem (default gateway) IP address, so how do I gain access to one of my PC's from another location? What IP address would I tell someone else to use to connect to one of my PCs?

Can anyone please help point me toward the proper solution? Thanks in advance!

First off, this is a bad idea unless you have some really trusted people and bulletproof passwords.

Here is how it would work (I used to do this occasionally). Open a port on your linksys router and forward it to the computer that is running VNC. For example, open port 12345 and forward it to the computer on your internal network i.e. 192.168.100.1 Set up VNC on the computer and you should be good to go.

Just give the person your outside IP address and the should be able to connect. Obviously, they would have to connect on the port you open. I.E. 65.32.61.151 port 12345 etc.

Again, be sure to use a great password. People scan for open ports all the time.

you have to find out what port VNC or pc anywhere uses and forward the port from your router to your pc's local address (192.168.x.x)
