"roadrunner and d-link wireless network cuts out"
We just got RoadRunner and a new d-link wireless router. We also have 7 computers sharing the internet. 4 or 5 are using the wireless feature but the others are hard wired into the router. My problem is, our internet cuts out about three times a day. This happens to all of the computers whether they are wireless or hard wired to the router. The only why to get back online is to restart the computers. Why does this happen? Is it the router or the internet service? Can anyone help?

Also, the wireless computers get very poor reception when they are only one floor above the router. Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks.

Check your internal router webpage and see if it is dropping the signal. Also check your modem to see if it has lost signal.

You should not have to ever restart in order to get back online unless your router is is dropping the ip addresses of your computers. Before restarting try start - run - type either cmd or command then at the dos prompt
type ipconfig
ipconfig /release will release your ip
ipconfig /renew will try to optain a new one from your router.
Also, with all routers when you run into problems check to see if there is a new firmware upgrade available. I had a similar problem of my router and modem dropping sync with each other every few days a year or so ago and a firmware upgrade fixed it.

Depends on what is in your house and between the floors. You could try setting up an access point upstairs or move your router to a more central location to better serve the wireless users.

I have the exact same problem as you. I use a D-link DI-624 wireless router & a Motorola Surfboard 4101 cable modem and I too have to restart both my lap top & my desktop a couple times a day. I called d-link support yesterday and they cound't figure it out. They told me to do the ipconfig next time it happens. I think it may be the modem..it is a discontinued model. Also, I have the latest firmware for my router installed. I hope I can figure this out.

I had a D-link wireless router and had the same problems on the wireless and the hardwire dropping on intervals and then coming back. I took the wireless router and wireless PC cards back and bought a Netgear 54"G". A real improvement, security better, config better. Check for firmware updates for the d-Link router and PC cards or DUMP THE D-LINK and get a Netgear or Linksys. Go for the "G" 54 speed, more security built in and internal network speed much better than 11b version. Don't do USB wireless.
