"2nd Computer" |
I have one computer w/cable and want to share ISP with 2nd computer. Tried the Linksys Wireless Access Point Router and got a good signal but unable to get results. I have the same cable line close to 2nd computer (also unused phone line by both) and was going to split and add another cable modem but do not want the extra ISP cost. Would rather avoid putting ethernet cable between since it would require going through walls/floor, etc. Any suggestions?

well, do you want to go wireless or not? You definitely do not need to pay for two high speed connections. A router splits the cable internet signal, i.e. for one price. If you were unable to find a solution to your wireless network in the manual or on some website, then go buy a normal router and follow the manual. I do not know much about wireless other than I have heard some problems non-technical people were having.

Hi,I have DSL on one computer and added another computer through the use of a Link-sys router. It was terrible ,,, I have to reset the whole thing many times during the day to keep it connected. Now I am switching to CABLE modem and I was wondering if I can get TWO cable modems (on the same service) and connect the two computers through them without the use of a router. Is that possible or there is no escape from the router? Does it work the same with DSL -if I get two modems- will that work?? What are the pros and cons for doing that, will i be splitting my bandwidth between the two computers ?? Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Have you upgraded the firmware on the router? Also, if you have to reset it several times a day why not return the router and get a different brand? You could get 2 cable modems if your cable company allows it and runs 2 separate cable lines into your house but you will not be able to network your computers with 2 unless you leave them open to everyone else as well. I don't think you can get 2 DSL modems. Staying with a router is your best bet if you want to have a secure network. If you continue to have trouble once you switch to cable get a different router. I know lots of people including myself that have used routers for years without problems. Mike gunther52@yahoo.com
