"Puzzled By Network Problems" |
Hey there. Here's the scoop. 3 computers (2 desktops, 1 laptop) and want to network them together to share files, use internet, etc. we're using wireless router and adapters with our roadrunner cable modem. currently, only 2 computers can get online - the laptop and the desktop connected directly to the router. the computer using the wireless adapter cannot get online. meanwhile, the computer with the wireless adapter and the laptop can access each other, but cannot access the computer directly connected to the router, and vice versa. ideas on how to fix it? thanks in advance.

I have almost the same condition you have. I bought a Netgear wireless router and 2 Netgear pcmcia wireless cards for my two laptops. Regardless on the router you have, type "http://192.168.0.1" on the PC that is hardwired to the router. In most cases the configuration page comes up, check the setting in the wireless section on the config page. You may have to preset the mac addresses on the wireless cards into the router. Make sure WEP in disabled at this time until you get good connections going. Scan with the wireless laptop to make sure you are seeing the "SSID" name for your router. In most cases, looking through the config page usually can fix the wireless section. When it does get going, you might want to lock the wireless mac addresses to the router for security. (it can keep others from getting on your network). I had a D-Link wireless router and it sucked, ttok it back for a Netgear 54M "G" wireless. Works good
