"1 ISP, Two Modems, will it work?"
I am moving into an apartment with a friend this semester at school. He already has cable internet service. There is a cable jack in my room.. If I buy another cable modem, would I be able to access the service? Or do I have to have one of those routers? Or what? any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is just a one semsester deal, so I'd hate to have to buy the router, only to need a cable modem later on for my lone computer when i move out.

Forget the router. You simply need a hub. Connect each PC and the cable modem to the hub. The modem should connect to the uplink port, usually port #1. If your hub does not have an uplink port, simply connect it using a cross-over cable. Set each PC for TCP/IP and set the Properties to "Assign an IP address automatically."
