"RoadRunner"
I am about to sign up with RoadRunner in the Melbourne, Fl area. They offer a discount if you have your own NIC. Should I buy one and install it myself or just pay the full price and use theirs? I'm not sure how much the discount is but maybe someone knows. Cable is going to be a great investment because I'll be paying the same price I do now for 56K (ISP $20/month and second phone line $20/month)which I'll cancel and reap the increased speed benefits.(Better for Quake also)

1. "Purchasing and installing a network card yourself"
One advantage of purchaing a network card yourself probably is that then you can get it working before the installer arrives. The installer of my Road Runner could not get the network card working with NT but the only problem was IRQ conflicts. He did not know to check that out, but after he left I fixed it.

2. "Road Runner's NIC"
I just had RR installed (via MediaOne) and used their card. It was fine, went off w/o a hitch, so I would say buy one on your own only if you care about the best price. The convenience was worth it for me.

3. "discount for nic or modem?"
BTW - You said they offered a discount - be careful on wording. The Card usually is a one-time charge for the hardware and installation, that shouldn't affect the monthly subscription price. Here in Massachusetts they offer a monthly discount if you pre-buy a cable modem - BUT you can't sign up via Media One, you have to sign up through Circuit City - its not very well explained. I wish I had understood so I could pay less per month, I signed up through MediaOne and am paying normal monthly fees and "renting" the modem.
