"Adelphia-up and down speed "
I recently signed up for adelphia powerlink. (horrible customer service!) Any way, I am running a G3 mac I.E. 5 and the terayon rental modem. My speed will fluctuate dramatically (between 40 and 400kbps) or just stop all together for a few minutes. Since I can't get any troubleshooting help from Adelphia- I was wondering if there were any tools or information out there that may help?

-any info is greatly appreciated.

I also have Adelphia and have seen the wild fluctuations you were talking about. Then they capped out at 60kBps for a while. Now I have wild fluctuations again and I average about 4-12kBps. The Tech comes out tomorrow sometime during an 8 hour time period. They're going to replace the cable modem and the cat-5. Won't do a damn thing to help.

The best software I know of on the macis IPNetMonitor. It's not too expensive (shareware) and has a great trace route, ping, and bandwidth graph. Check for packet loss with the ping and trace route... that's what my original fluctuations were caused by. Getting it fixed is another issue.
