"No Broadband at all...cable-one is a horrible provider" |
I live in rio rancho, new mexico, which is a suburb of albuquerque, nm. In albuquerque and the entire surrounding area, comcast is the provider and they all have cable internet. here in rio rancho, cable one is the provider and for the last 2 years promise cable access every month yet never provide. whats even more frustrating is that qwest did a shoddy job on the phone lines around here so i cant get dsl either. AND whats even more annoying is that I live three blocks from Intels largest manufacuring plant, yet can't get a decent internet connection(i know its unrelated but its annoying)im attending a city council meeting this week to see if there is any way the city can force cable one to hurry the upgrade that they had lied about for years.

Man, that sucks. I hope that the council meeting concludes with some action being done about the broken promises. I, personally, think that it is ridiculous and an insult to the whole idea of the internet to have to surf it at dial-up speeds. I could not imagine life without broadband now that I have tasted it. Apparently, Congress is pushing the cable providers very hard to upgrade aggressively to provide broadband everywhere. Post the outcome of the meeting.

Hmmm. I'm using cableone.net on coastal Mississippi and I'm getting 300-375 Kbps download speed. The only alternative for high speed access here is adsl, which I cannot afford and I'm too far from the nearest co anyway.Their 'free tech support' is rather poor quality. Can't connect to my email using Eudora, but can using Pegasus mail or Netscape Messenger. They don't support Eudora, just 'look at the help pages' on their web site. I configured using their help 'picures' and it still wont connect. When I use Eudora to connect to my other pop3 email accounts at other locations, it works fine. I do tech support for a living, so I'm slightly disappointed in their tech support. What do they support for email ? Outlook. Jim

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, cable one is the provider out here, and after years of promises, they are finally installing a few cable lines in some remote areas. It's very frustrating I know, the two neighboring towns have either cable or DSL, and all the wires eventually end up at a small building in my town. You'd think it'd be easier to install from there but noooooo. You see all the DSL and cable commercials on TV. If they want you to have their DSL so bad, you'd think they'd work harder to get it to you.

sounds like what verizon did to me in PA. I didn't have cable tv and used a dish so cable internet was not what I wanted. Verison promised dsl to my area in April 2001. I swithed to cable tv from dish network to get broadband last june and my neighbor is still waiting for verizon to get dsl in. I liked the dish but the high speed internet we have now more than makes up for it. don't even look at satelite internet it is not as fast as cable or dsl and the one person I know that uses directway is always cursing it. and its more expensive too, $69 a month plus you have to buy the sat. equipment add $400 for that. good luck at the town meeting.
