"Coaxial or Cat-5 to extend"
I just moved within town and when I reconnected the cable modem I was getting really slow service. In my new house, I needed to run a much longer coaxial cable. Knowing this I moved the computer closer to the incoming cable line and the service seemed to improve. This means that I need a higher quality cable to extend that distance. I have a question though.... Should I buy a better grade RG-6 coaxial cable and keep the modem next to the computer... or should I leave the modem in the basement near the incoming cable line and run the ethernet cat 5 cable up to the computer? Which one will be me impacted by long run?

you have to go with the ethernet cable it can hold the signal with needing a boost for about 100 meters. it is alot mor efficent with that kind of a setup.

I agree Cat-5 better than coax see if you can get cat-6 or have the cable Co come out and test the line, they will do this for free and repair / replace as needed
