Just wanted to share my experience. Recently, I tweaked my Motorola SurfBoard 3100 Cable Modem and got speeds of upto 1.4 MB/sec. Hahaha, and I'm still wanting more. The more the merrier!! I just swithed from DSL to Cable. MAN what a difference!!! 318 to 3800!!! WOW!!! Suppose to be 1500 but I have run as high as 5000!!!

I've got a Linksys BESFR41 cable router and wondered what type of settings you came up with. Mainly, the TTL and MTU settings. I can set them with DRTCP or in the Linky itself.

yes i ve got the same cable modem but my download times are soo slow just around12,5kb/s for a cable modem damn it. is there a chance to increase my connection speed or the problem here is the service provider for my cable modem? any way they will not provide more for that reason i need ways to increase my download speed.

I have an SB 3100 and am getting downloads at 64KB. Please let me know how to increase speed. Comcast tech says the problem is in my computer and not their equipment. I have a pentium III and doubt that's the problem.

I have the same modem and have never experienced speeds anything like what you mentioned. I have Adelphia as my ISP and have constantly complained to no avail. Right now I tested at 34 kbs. which is ridiculously slow. I might as well use a dial up modem.
Any info you can give me would be appreciated.

Everybody, while you cannot tweak the modem itself, the problem in most cases is your PC's settings. If you are running Windows 95 or 98 try adjusting the DefaultRcvWindow in the registry. Go to HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\System\CurrentContolSet\VxD\MSTCP Change the DefaultRcvWindow to 32767 then reboot PC.

I don't have a Rcvwindow on my system is there another way of increasing the speed??????????

Hi! I have a Samsung Info-Ranger SCM-110R cable modem and videotron in Quebec provider, and doing 300K download on their 10-mo ftp file
My Rwin is set at 64240 and my MTU at 1500
everything else ar default. I run WINDOWS 95
with Win 98 registry settings winsock 2

1500 kbps (1.5 Mbps) is nothing. While it blows away dial up, it's not fast enough for me. I had Windows 98 SE two weeks ago, and my cable modem guy used SpeedGuide.net's generic registry tweaks to boost my modem. I was getting about 2 Mbps with the generic registry patches they give.

Well, I now installed WinXP and clocked my speed. All I could get was about 1.0 Mbps until I used the Windows 2000/XP tweak from speedguide.net. Now I'm getting about 3MBPS (that's 3000 kbps!)!!! Talk about smokin! I would highly suggest trying the generic registry tweaks from there first of all, then trying other things.

I recently installed a cable modem (Motorola SB 4100) and I was running fine until I tried to hook up my LAN and destroyed my registry settings whcih I have recovered from at this time.
I remember istalling a few patches to get the speed issue resolved when I originally installed the modem, however since reloading the registry software I lost the patch and I am only running at 1,200kbps rather than the 2,300kbps I was running before the problem occured.
I have installed the MTU patch which helped but still not right. The cable company tech support is useless with this problem as I am sure you are aware.
Can someone help me please.

I seem to only connect @ speeds of 350 kbs.
My download speeds seem to be even slower I can
only reach music downloads @ 21.0 kbs max.

#1 YOU CANNOT HACK YOUR MODEM.
reason: the sb3100 is a docsis standard modem it is controlled by the headend (catv company)
#2 CHECK WITH YOUR CABLE ISP FOR RATED SPEED.
reason: because isp providers cap speeds. they vary by isp .. someone can be getting 1.04 MB?sec with a 3100 and another can be getting 1.5 mb/s (MB-megaBytes---Mb-megabits) with the same modem because a certain isp caps speeds in order to control network traffic..
#3REG TWEAKS WILL HELP BUT NO MIRACLES.
reason: the tcp/ip stack that comes with most windows os's is not optimized for broadband if you tweak you stack you might squeeze out more bandwith but not over your cap....

1st)you CAN uncap your docsis cable modems I do
have the software and know a few ppl who have done it. I got the software from a website that was recently shut down search like heck and you may find it(sorry but no I wont give it away lol)

2nd)uncapping is dumb if you uncap your modem they
will find out with in a week or so and you may lose your service for life (if you have RR)
and/or possibly face criminal charges!

3rd) I recomend Dr.TCP you can get it from www.broadbandreports.com, patches are nice but do not address individual needs. the web site I
listed above also has a FAQ which will walk you
through all the settings on Dr.TCP (extremely simple) they also have forums with really great
ppl who just love to help others out when they can
