And the news is....IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

Sorry to be so blunt, but looking over all the posts, most of them deal with trying to find a way around the bandwidth caps put in place by the ISP's. While this was once possible, bandwidth utilization is now monitored and controlled by equipment in the cable company's office (headend), so even if you could get your modem to work at speeds beyond the cap, the CMTS or router is probably going to dump any packets that exceed the limit, so you're not going to see any actual improvement. (There's also the issue of the modem and CMTS periodically checking to make sure that the modem is using the "correct" configuration file that was assigned to it, but that's a whole different story.)

Thanks for clearing that up. I have had Road Runner Cable for only a couple of weeks but from what I have read, Windows is the problem. Initially, I was getting speeds of around 30kbps until I downloaded "Accelerate 2000" trial version. Now I am getting as much as 300kbps according to the on-line test I used at www.cable-modem.net before and after the installation of Accelerate. I understand there are manual tweaks of the registry but I am not a wizard with the registry so I must use a program to do it for me. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks again.
