HI I HAVE CABLE. MY ISP SAID IT WILL GO 3MBITS/SEC DOWSTREAM AND 750KBITS/SEC UPLOAD. AND IT ACTUALLY GOES AT THIS SPEED. I PAY $108.75 FOR MY CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET. THERE ARE 33 USER IN MY AREA WITH CABLE, BUT I HAVE A DIFERENT CONNECITON THEN THEM. I KNOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SHARED BUT NOT THIS. AND GAMING I GET PINGS RANGING BETWEEN 20-120, THIS IS PRETTY GOOD. WELL CYA:d:O

Don't get me wrong on this, but I think you are being ripped off on your connection. It sounds like the cable tech has filled your head full of nonsense. I would be willing to bet that he/she got you to sign up for commercial connection with super fast up-load, (this to me, is not worth it unless you have a web-server business or an e-business with mass, bulk email responsibilities), and simply did not put a digital noise filter on your connection, which would result in your faster d/l capabilities. I do not have a filter, either, and I see d/l much faster than your's, but I have only 256KBps upload, but still get about 30-50 ping. The sweet part is that I only pay 39.99 per month for my connection. I would investigate this if I were you.

You mention a "digital noise filter". I have never heard of this before (not that I know much about computers). Is it something I can buy or is it something my cable provider should be setting up for me?

A noise filter on a cable line simply filters out noise caused by other lines, devices. Of course, we cannot "hear" it, but cable lines can. There is a test that the cable tech can do to determine is your lines suffer from digital noise. If they don't, then you do not need a filter, if you have one, because it will limit your d/l somewhat. Check it out.

I just wanted to brag a little about my new cable modem installed today.
My average speed down has been 3.4 mbps and up has been 955.

what type of modem are you using? Is there a speed difference b/t RCA and Motorola?

i dunno much about this but...if my cable line connecting to my house is only used for the cable modem and no cabletv, does that mean i can remove the noise filter? and if so, how can i do this? or does this require a professional?

true, i pay 40 dollars a month for dsl and i can go way faster than cable.. considering that i tweaked the hell out of it... 250 upload and download, ihad cable but the bandwidth sucked at high points of theday.

yeah dude, he got ripped off. theres always ways to boost up ur internet. it might be just a matter of installing components. like fo me before i had a 1900 downstream, now after i installed components to corroenspond with my connection my downstream is like 2600kbs. but but my upstream is gay lol. it has went down, but onluy because people are gettin roadrunner

i get avaerage 3Mbps over here at cablevision in NY too. hes not lying. i need to get 3Mb/sec. thats what im looking for. i wonder if a faster modem would help. most modems now have a data rate of 38-43Mbps down speed. i wonder if this is actually attainable.

Actually, yes, there is a way to get the full potential out of your cable modem. I did it for about 7 days. Then, the cable company noticed that I was not getting billed for it, then they figured it out. What happened was that I had some sort of "temp" account set up while my true account was being set up, (I had it installed on a Sunday). In other words, I never had my cable modem provisioned from the @home main office but did have my MAC addressed entered for this "temp" account. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I was AVERAGING about 25Mbps. I was downloading demos in seconds. In fact, I downloaded the Diablo II demo in less that 2 seconds. It sucked when my cable company figured out the problem, though. Now, I am "only" at 2Mbps and upload at about 280Kbps. So, unless you have inside connections with your cable ISP, and they can get you in without provisioning your modem, you can obtain these levels. Although I bet this is highly illegal. Good luck!

Easy! get optimum online. I get 5.5mb down and 980k up And alot of ppl on OOL get higher than i do.

i sure do wish i could get above my 1.6mbps (AT&T RoadRunner/Mediaone or whatever)connection the fastest i ever downlaoded at was 200kBps and my computer almost freezes i need more RAM! i only got 64mb....i wonder if thats my limit or if its the lack of RAM...and i doubt many people have cable in my neighborhood....i doubt many have a computer...(South Central Los Angeles AKA The Ghetto)..tisk tisk tisk....i mean....great!

Well I got my conection going up too 4.5 mbps but I'ts just that I did something to the cable modem and plus I have a Software that's available at Morpheus that you can make your modem to go 3 times faster then what it has. Well got's to go see ya.

Your ping rate depend on how close you are to the gamers server not your conection. If you ping rate on a game is 20 to 40 that means that the server is with in a couple of hundred miles. Ping rates under 10 means the server is with in 10 to 25 miles.

God you all are something i only get a total of 350k download and test says i got like 1.5mps and upload of 75k to like 150k and you can go over 35mps god thats would be cool sure like that btw my main idea was is there a way i can tweak my modem or something to get my speed up faster
