hi, i've heard of programs that boot other people connected on the same cable when they are idle for a long time. can anyone point me towards one of these, as i really am desperate for any extra speed i can get. thanks, seth

Think about your request for a moment. Cable (and DSL) service has been sold with the promise of "instant access" and "always on." Therefor, such a program would be in violation of any contract you signed with your service provider. Such hackware that is out there may very well do the trick. And you could be sued for breach of peace in most jurisdictions. There is no technical difference to you employing such a divice and just walking to the house across the street and cutting their phone line. What is worse, your ISP will know what you have done because they can monitor the activity.
