"Slow cable connection speeds" |
I have noticed that more and more people are saying that they are having dial-up like speeds on their cable connections. Although one would definitely think to tweak their registry with a patch or self-fix it to get more speed, I don't think people realize the importance of your actual cable. Are you people that are having slow speeds using cheap, Wal-Mart cable or the cable supplied by your Cable Company? I just can't see a network being that congested or a company letting a network become that congested given the DSL competition. Please consider the following if you have a slow speed. 1. Is everything installed correctly and have the correct drivers for them? 2. Is there any splits from the actual connection from the pole to your cable modem? If so, consider having the Cable Company dedicate a line from the pole to the cable modem. It is their responsibility. 3. Is your hardware/software used for running cable internet compatible with your Operating System, (Win 95, 98, ME, XP, etc.)? 4. Check your Device Mananger, (right click My Computer--properties). Are there any conflicts needing resolving? In other words, are there any exclamation marks or question marks? 5. Has the Cable company provisioned your modem? Do they have everything they need, (MACs, IPs, Subnets, etc.)? 6. Is they Cable company holding up to agreements of speed? All they need is proof that you are d/l slow all of the time and a copy of their agreement for speed and I can assure you, it will be investigated, (they do NOT want a lawsuit, trust me).If none of these apply, and everything is in order, no conflicts of any kind, and you are still getting slow speed, then I would consider maybe paying some private party that does MCSE type work to look at it for you and fight the tech support for you. I am an MCSE tech for the healthcare system I work for and when I have a problem with something involving any kind of tech support, I instantly tell them that I am licensed MCSE and I get tiered to another level, to a competent person. May be worth your time to find someone like that.

You know that Landcruiser that just passed your Daewoo and gave you a slipstream that nearly blew you off of the road? That was mine, thanks to my MCSE...vagina. (For the record, I was not bragging at all about my MCSE...but now that you bring that up, go to mcpmag.com and try some of the quizzes. Yeah, all I can do is answer questions. Look, if you are a disgruntled cable internet installer, I understand. But don't knock your superiors.)

well simply cable can give you a capped speed but not a minimium speed so you can range anywhere lke where i live from 512kbs to 12kbs to not working so i left cable and went to try dsl not expecting much i had heard it was crap but i bought one of the packages and i get 2.5 mbs guranteed well on a speed test i get 2.3mbs but thats fine wiht me i can also know host a web page with a 1mbs upload speed so it is cool another thing is when they say 30Mbs for cable that is how fast the provider gows but from i chart i saw that 30mbs is split between 10 different nodes and then however many people in each node another thing is check and see if your results are in Bytes or bits anywas that is not technical so you should easily be able to understand that

Remember, if you have a firewall installed, and enabled with improper configuration this will slow-down your cable speeds. Beware, updates to to your firewall can cause your preset configurations to change, hurting your cable speeds.
