"Slow Uploads"
Ok I have run this speed test http://64.13.111.3/support/online_tools/speedtool_low.asp and I get 1.9Mbps dwn and 386Kbps up. I run a websever from this computer for my Quake III Arena server website. For players to get into my Quake server they have to download my maps file which is 154Mb. When someone starts to download this file it will start with a download speed in the 100's Kbps but within a min or so it will drop down into the 40's and 30's Kbps. If I have a test speed of 386 Kbps why does it drop like this and is there a way to make my uploads faster? Thanks for your time. My website is http://www.58arenas.com/

Your trying to upload 154mb file to people off a cable modem? Dude, your on a cable modem not a T1+ even a t1 would take a while for 154mb.

Make the file smaller, maybe 10mb chunks or something. 154mb is a joke, you will be uploading for hours.

Also you are on Road Runner and they are usually capped around 30-50KB on uploads. I just tried pulling the file and I only got 32KB/sec.

I didn't know rr allowed dns, are you paying extra to have them direct to your computer? Also since you are running apache off of a 2k box make sure you check your logs every once in a while as a precaution.

Hey Mike thanks for the info. Here is info that Road Runner post in their website for speed. This is a copy of what they have.

How fast is Road Runner?
Road Runner provides download of up to 2,000 kilobits per second. That compares with the maximum dial-up speed of 56 kilobits per second. For instance, a file download, say a movie trailer, that would take roughly 30 minutes on a 14.4 dial-up modem will take about 30 sec. on Road Runner. This is true for downloading all types of files such as videos, pictures, software and so on. And up loading files happens at a swift 384 kilobits per second.

As you can see they advertise uploading. So I do not see where they would have a problem with it.

I am knew at website hosting so any info you give me is very much appreciated. The reason I have the 154Mb file is to make it more easy for downloading. If I seperated this file it would have to make it 58 different files. I used to have it setup that way then changed it to the big file download. People have responed to this being better and I get more players in the server this way. People just dont want to take the time to do the 58 different files.

As far as the directing to my site I do that myself with my own Name Servers.

You mentioned checking my log file. What am I checking for? Is there a security issue I need to be looking for.

I put my email address on here if you would rather email me than post repley to this.

Really thanks for your time!! Kram
