"usb or ethernet"
i have a toshiba cable modem and i was wondering if it would be better if i run it to my nic or keep using the usb port? i was just looking at usb speed and they top out at 1.5 mega bytes per sec. i would think that that would slow me down. i just ran speed tests and i got a 13% increase in download speed using the nic. anyone else have any info on this? thanks.

Most def. the Nic would be faster. usb has a limit of around 1.5 ->2 meg transfer nic is at minimum with an antique card 10meg 20 full duplex, You probibly have a 10 100 tx nic it would run 200 full duplex depending on your modem capabilities. I have a Ambit modem on a Lynksys Router runs 100tx betwen them but Charter sees fit to cap my modem at 2m. You should get better speed from the NIC regardles, basides being ably to connect more than 1 machine to it
