will buying a new modem increase my internet speed, i heard cable puts block on the ones that the service comes with and if getting one with out blocks would make it faster

the dosis version could change your speed. version one uses less encryption than does 1.1. the differences are likely to be slight performance wise and there are other factors as well but most modems are the same modem. version 2.0 however uses qos. this will likely cap usteam speeds to suit the networks needs, qos is more a cult than a protocol though. http://itpapers.zdnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=2074
