"Internal Network conflict with Cable Modem" |
I'm running a single cable modem, linked to a standard 8 port hub. I have 3 computers plugged in to the hub 2 running Win98SE, one running XP Home, all work fine accessing the Internet. The problem is several weeks ago, after years of no problems, my internal network stopped working, IE: I can't access the other computers on my intrAnet. Again, each individual computer accesses the IntErnet fine, but they don't see each other. Here's the rub. If I Disconnect the cable modem from the hub, Voila!, the other systems all appear, plug the cable modem back in, and no access. The only change to my network I can think of is the addition of the Windows XP machine around XMAS time. I did try unplugging the XP system, but still no intranet, only if I unplug the cable modem. Any suggestions would be appreciated !!

Here are a few suggestions. 1)All computers are on the same workgroup. 2)check the ip's and make sure you are on the same subnet. 3)You could try mapping drives via IP address 4)check all the drive shares or however you were accessing the other systems. The XP system shouldn't make any difference to your internal net. If you are getting external IP addresses be very wary about sharing drives because your computers will be very vulnerable. Email me if you have more questions. Mike gunther52@yahoo.com
