"Random Disconnects"
I am a new subscriber to cable internet. All seems fine, but occasionally (every 2 or 3 days), the connection seems to drop for a few minutes up to an hour ? All lights on modem still lit, cable t.v. still on, but no internet? Only thing I have tried is turning modem off and back on, which does not seem to affect anything. My question is - How do I isolate the problem to see if it is a modem issue, a provider issue or something else...or is this just the nature of the beast?

Thanks,
WCM

I have the same problem. The technician said use of Kaaza (files are uploaded by this network) is the reason. Did you correct your problem? How?

It is probably not Kazaa. This happened to me at my last apartment building where once every day or so at roughly the same time my cable modem would pretty much lock up and go solid. If I left it alone long enough it would correct itself or I would power cycle it and it would be fine. I spoke to techs several times and never got an answer.

One day my splitter went out and after I replaced it all was well. I don't know if this had anything to do with the problem or if it was just a problem with the ISP itself. Annoying as it was it went away.

I know how you feel! I have had the service for
a week. Worked great until Friday (5/16) night.
It is now Monday and It disconnects randomly-I have to shut down the CPU, unplug this modem and let it sit for a minute. Then it works again for
a while. Very disappointing!

I think you need to have a talk with your cable company. Their signal is not strong enough or it is split up too many times. They need to tweak their transmitter on the pole to get you a better connection something like 7 dBmV or at least 3 dBmV. I have had my cable company fix this and I also got a credit for the 2 weeks that this kept happening. Ask and you will recieve.

Cheers
