"wireless link signal erratic"
My desktop is hardwired to wireless router and the network connection is reliable. Wireless connection to my laptop, however, has become erratic. I monitor signal and link quality for the wireless connection. Signal strength is always excellent but link quailty is what fluctuates wildly. I can get excellent link signal quality consistently only when laptop is <3 feet from router. However, on rare occasions I seem to get good wireless connections across the room so I do not think the internal wireless LAN on my laptop is to blame. What puzzles me is the difference between link and signal strength? If the link signal needs a boost is this an ISP issue or do I need a booster for my router?

My Equipment:

Router: Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless 4-port cable

Desktop: Micron PC running Win98SE

Laptop: IBM TP R30 running Win 2000Pro
Laptop LAN: internal IBM HighRate MiniPCI Combo

Cable Company: Charter

Appreciate any suggestions.
