"Data light on the modem is flashing"
On my modem, the data light is almost constantly flashing. I know it should be flashing when I'm sending or receiving data, but when I'm not doing anything on the net, just play solitare or something, it is constantly flashing. Is this normal?

I just had a Motorola SB5100 cable modem installed and mine does that too. The activity LED even flashes when I have my computer turned off. A call to my cable tech support said that is normal.

its normal. probably just the modem talking to the cable co to make sure its still connected. the cable co's equiment stays in contact with the modem to make sure its on and to run diagnostics to check for problems.
