Here's one big thing to keep in mind, I know nothing about the Wiz program so I can't respond to that. But, check with them and see how they react to "If the cable modem standard changes, will they trade out the modem for a new one"?
Secondly, some vendors, cable operators have preprietory standards as to what cable modem with work with the system protocals. Ie, Motorola, Scientific Atlantic, Toshiba, etc. And the biggie does it support the DOCSIS protocal standards.
Through my cable provider, I lease my 3Comm, highly rated through Cable Engineers standards and if the DOCSIS standard should change, I walk the thing in and get the new modem at no charge or loss of service to me. Lots of packages may look good, but I invite you to read the wealth of information placed on the Net for free, that will aid even the "newbie" in deciding what best for him or her. That's how I got here, links from other excellent sites on the subject. Many of these services check how well your modem and network card are handling the new found broadband too. One I visited the other night led me to a quirk in the Windows 98SE registry that was keeping me from getting the best of the best in uploads and downloads. It's the PMTU auto recognize statement, which was impeding the throughput which at the time was a chinsie, 128kbps. Erased that entry from the registry and bang!!!!!, that number quickly jumped to 1015kbps which after years of analog 56K brought tear to my eyes!!!!! :O))
Went a bit long here, but do check out those questions and others before leaping into something that may end up eating you alive. You wouldn't put three Michelen tires on your car and put the fourth one as a Firestone :O)) would ya.
Try before you buy don't get it with the cable provider. I had a helluva time getting to install my service myself, but at $100 dollars per installer technician I can understand why. $59.95 for a guy to install a splitter and few feet of co-ax and $100 for a technician can be right salty. Ah so I saved a few nickels in the process.
Merry Christmas, Season's Greetings to all, and hope you get what your looking for and expect.
