"Filters to block cable tv"
When I got my cable modem a year ago, a friend told me I could get cable tv also. I already had direct tv in my living room, but I hooked up a small tv next to my computer so I could watch tv while I was on my computer. 3 weeks ago my cable modem went out and a repair crew came out and replaced it. Now all I get on the tv is channel 2, which is a cable channel. They didn't make any other changes to anything around the house and I was just curious if anyone knew what they are doing now to stop cable tv? All they did was replace the modem box.

they make a variety of filters to block out certain channels, depending on the level of cable service you want. they even make a filter in my area where it cuts off everything except the cable modem.

You were lucky they didn't either make you pay x dollars for the tv and if you didn't want to do that, they could have disconnected you and took legal action. It has been done before....

They have a special filter that blocks out most or all of the cable channels and just lets the modem frequency through. They will usually install that at the tap on top of the pole.

getting *free* cable is not your fault. if the cable co. did not install a filter to begin with, then its their fault. they cannot take any legal action. If however you tamper with the equipment that they own or put in place, then they can come after you. bottom line is they found out you didnt have a filter and were not paying for tv service so they installed one for you. you cannot (*should-not*) do nothing other than pay for the service. 8||
