"Too many users with broadband..."
Hey. I was just thinking about the whole internet. Theoretically, if a whole lot of people go with broadband internet usage, granted that it gets offered in a lot of places, wouldn't the internet as a whole, slow way down? If servers can only serve so many users so much bandwidth, and everyone has broadband capability, wouldn't that be enough to slow down the internet drastically?

not really.

I am waiting for the day they install fiber optic lines everywhere.

Yeah, fiber optic will definitely speed things up on a broad scale. Did you know that Lucent Technologies recently was able to send data over an advanced fiber optic line at a rate of 10 terabits per second? Could you imagine Comcast, for example, having a backbone of 10 terabits per second? The cap for users would be 10 Mb per second, the max of the ethernet card. It is very possible.

yeah but why cap at 10mb? Just pop in a gigabit ethernet card and you are rocking, bring on the speed. Hopefully it will happen in the next 10-20 years. I guess I can dream for now.

10terabits/sec is insane, hard drives wouldn't even be fast enough to touch that.

upgradable to 1Gbps,10Gbps.

there is also a traz-atlantic pipe that is 640tbps.

also there is 10ebps fixed wireless back bones.
