Does anyone know how user's authentification is done when using a cable-modem?

First off, when you turn on your modem it sends a message to your ISP, that you are on. Then when you open up a gateway, IE or whatever browser you use, one of the first things that get sent are your user name and pass, which I GUESS are stored somewhere on MOTORola (or whatever cable you got) driver or some other file.
For more info do this:
DL Tiny Firewall
Install it
Turn of your modem
Restart your computer, after installing it
Turn on your modem
Any packet sent out or recieved will pop up in window, so you can take a look at it

they now use the mac address of the modem

you can change this MAC address? i tried telnet the cable modem, but, can really change this mac address?

No.

that is the same as asking to change a serial number or a Vin# on a car.
