I had issues with Windows XP and a Linksys cable modem router when I first loaded windows XP. I wound up reloading Windows XP and I D/L the last firm ware from Linksys 1.40.2 for the router. The man thing is that you need to make sure the network card is setup for TCP/IP. Is the card able to pull a IP from the Linksys? Can you connect to the linksys? What happens when you go to a command prompt and type in IPCONFIG? Do you see a IP setting?

The hookup is fine and my card can get a ip address, but i can't get connected to the internet with windows xp. My other computer running win 95 works fine. When i try to use internet explorer with win xp. I get a message saying detecting proxy connection at the bottom leftfor the longest time, then i get can't find server message. For my IE Lan settings, i've only chosen obtain tcpip address automatically.

I have a SMC router and didn't have any probs with XP.

Have you tried pinging websites or your gateway to see if you can get beyond your router? does ftp work?

Although I have a router I still had to input my dns servers to XP because I assign IP addresses to all 4 comps on my internal LAN. That could be a possibility.

I don't have anything selected under my IE settings except for Never Dial a connection. Feel free to respond here or email me off list if I can be of some more help.

Mike
