"Connecting via Cable"
Going cable and looking for connection options that avoid requirement for making NT PC a member of the ISP's domain. Reason is telecommuting via VPN. I see lots of ads for Cable/DSL routers. Do these sit behind the ISP (Astound! in my case) provided docsis modem or replace it? If behind, can they be a dchp client and do they eliminate the need for NT PC to join the ISP's domain?

TIA

I've not had any feed back on my post regarding avoidance of joining the ISP's domain, but a check of mfg. sites shows the cable/dsl routers such as LinkSys and others will do the job you are seeking. They sit behind the cable modem and some incldue 4-8 port hubs.

Yes you can hookup two PC's to the same cable modem. You can do this with a Hub or a router.IF you use a hub, verify with your cable company that you are authorized more than one IP address. IF you are not then go with a router as it will do IP traslation, and the server will only see one IP. The reason the cable company worries about multiple IP's is that it costs them for a group of IP's and if your using more than authorized they tend to get flustered.
good surfing
