"Switching USB to NIC"
I initially connected via the USB and now want to switch the connection to the NIC. Could someone PLEASE walk me through the procedure? What needs to be powered down, disconnected, etc. and in what order? I've searched FAQ(s), my ISP's help files to no avail. TIA for any advice. I'm a newbie to cable, so need detailed instruction.

Deanna-

Don't know where you are at in terms of having a NIC installed etc but if you do then just turn your modem off (take out the usb cable completely), plug your modem into your nic card, turn it back on. That is pretty much all there is to it.

Pretty self explanitory for the most part.

Thanks Mike, the card is installed. There is no 'off' switch on the modem,(Motorola SB4100), so I should shutdown the computer, unplug the power cord to the modem, switch the cords, plug the modem back in, wait for it to connect, then re-boot? That's where my head was at, just wanted to confirm it. Thanks again.

No need to shutdown the computer or unplug the modem. Just pull the usb cable, plug in your ethernet cable. You might need to reboot your comp afterwards though.

On the SB4100 the button on the front near the bottom works as an on off switch as well.

Hope it works flawlessly.
