what type of modem do you have? most modems offer an interface in which you can check your forward and return signal by going to 192.168.100.1 through your web browser. an optimal forward signal is 0 but +15 to -15 is within docsis specs. the more common problem with keeping modems online is the return level. it can't exceed 58db Tx power to reach the cmts at the head end. a line booster will not help your problem if it is on the return path. as far as forward signal, the booster will 'boost' the signal but chances are if the signal needs to be increased, you are much better off having you cable company perform that in the plant in your area.

Good Luck

Dont play with your power levels. If you are having a problem with your downstream levels, you are more than likly having issues with your upstream power also.Call your cable company and they will send a tech to correct it.Believe me your modem should not be going off line by just adding a splitter.
Good luck
