"One Cable Modem, Three Devices"
I have tried researching this, but get confused with all the talk of ethernet, routers, hubs, switches, etc.

My situation: I have 1 computer running Windows XP that has an external cable modem.

I want to hook up another computer running Windows 98, and a Playstation 2 (later this August), so both can use my cable internet connection. The PS2 will have an adapter that a cable connection can plug right into.

I am considering purchasing a "Linksys BEFSR41 Etherfast 4-Port Cable/DSL Router". Other than some CAT5 cable, is there anything else I need? Is this even the product I need?

Please, some simple answers! I'm a simple guy!

Thank you for your help.

yep, all you need is a router. The one you noted sounds good.

Also make sure your computer has NIC installed.

Use the linksys, make sure your Win98 system has an ethernet 10/100 pci card, set network neighborhood on all systems to dhcp protocol. All this is documented in the linksys install guide. You will now be able to connect up to 4 systems to the internet using your cable modem/linksys firewall-router. You don't need any other external hardware beyond the cable modem and the linksys.

No reason to go dhcp behind a router, go static.
