"Running Ethernet through RG-6"
Hi,
My question is this. Is it possible to run ethernet and cable tv through RG-6, at the same time. If so, what kind of splitters/adaptors would I need to buy. Seems to me I would need an adaptor to receive ethernet and cable at the incoming side, and another adaptor to separate the cable and ethernet at the outgoing side.

Thanks for the help, in advance.

RG - 6 cable is going to have a bandwith limitation of 10mbps. If you look at older networking hardware, 10baseT (I think) you will notice that all eathernet used to be coax of one type or another.

If you use the older nic's with the BNC conector you should be able to buy an adapter to convert the rg - 6 to a BNC conector and link 2 or more computers together.

Shorter answer... Yes however it has many draw backs.

If you do this you will have to learn about distance limitatons and proper terminaiton.

Good luck

High Speed Data and the signal that is used for your television are on different frequencies. You can run your cable modem and your TV at the same time as long as you use a quality splitter. You can purchase the splitter at any Radio Shack for around 2 dollars. In any case, if you split the line your signal will degrade causing your cable connection to be slower.

RG-6 is not limited to 10Mbs.
The coax used for LANs is not RG-6.
