First off I want to say that I have never dealt with RCN nor would I since I don't live in NY. On that note although you had a pretty bad experience, most of it seems like it could have been solved without all the hassle you went through by using some common sense. I mean come on...>A few weeks later my cable lost all the premium >channels that I was paying for, out of nowhere. >I was now only recieving basic cable but paying >for premium.
Why not just call and get a credit for the outage? thats what I do, nice and easy. If they can't get a tech out for 2 weeks or a month ask to speak with a supervisor, don't argue with the little people be persuasive with the people in charge.
>While I had gone to answer the phone, I saw out >of the corner of my eye that the technician had >left the house and then came back in
If this guy "looked like he crawled out of a sewer pipe" why on gods green earth would you let him walk around your house by himself, use your bathroom, or even touch your telephone??? It really blows if he stole something but come on what would you expect?
>I was then told that there was no record of >anybody every telling me not to worry about the >last bill
Duh, it is your word against theirs. Did you have a name, date and time of the person you spoke with? With those 3 things it adds crediblity to your side of the story.
>So I hung up on them very annoyed and just >ignored the bill.
Ignoring the bill was another genius move!
>AND that I would be charged $250.00 for each >digital converter that I hadn't returned and >$15.00 for each remote control. I was never told >to return anything!
What, you thought you could keep their property? Come on. LOL
Although I am empathetic to your story, (I hate cable companies as much as the next guy), if you were to handle things with common sense and phone skills you would have probably had a much better experience. (I could have gone more indepth and repsonded to everything but I think the above excerpts paint a pretty good picture).
If you go to court you will definately lose unless there is something you could actually prove besides loss of premium service. Good Luck!
