If I get a cable modem would i just be able to hook it up in one of the wall jacks.I have read most of the forums here and most of them say they use there cable tv.

Yes, you could use a wall jack. It is suggested however that you use a jack closest to where the cable comes into your house (i.e. where there are the least amount of splits in the cable line. After about 2 or so splits your modem will have a hard time syncing up if it does at all.)
