"Trouble with my cable modem please help!"
i have been having trouble with my cable modem and i have tried the cable and xdsl tweaks at speadguide.net and nothing has helped my connection i have cox road runner on a toshiba cable modem and when they installed it they said that the modem i had bought was broken and they had to use theirs so i had to pay more for it and i am a gamer as well and i know many other people with cable modems who dont have this problem. the problem is my ping spikes all over the place going from 80-700 and then jumps all over again and does this all the time and my download speeds are not good either i was told max download speeds were 1.5mbps and i only get 30kps download speeds please help me !!

The only thing i probable can suggest is maybe updating your drivers, and i used the sppedguide setup and noticed a difference, and for your download have you tried a download-accelerator ?
if not go here http://www.downloadaccelerator.com
on some good days i can hit 400 to 550 /kbs per/sec. and on heavy days between 100 to 300.
The odd time 50 < if its really busy >

I know this didn't help much ( but download should be better with this )

i am having the exact same problem on a Hybrid modem. The problem is not in your software or your hardware or download accelerators it is in the ISP. They need more help than we do .Since this a new technology they wind up blaming us.
My ping in gaming jumps from 80-800ms.it locks me up,its not worth playing like that. They either have too many people on their line or their bandwidth manager is broke or the settings in the amps in your node need tweaked. Let me know if they fix it and what they did.

maybe try a trace route program or go into msdos prompt and type tracert espn.com the espn.com part can be substituted by any webpage or ip address it will show you all the jumps the packets must make and show you your speed in ms and whether your packets are being dropped. ussually if you have slow pings (high numbers in ms) or dropped packets within the first 3 hops its time to call your cable co. if its past there then its an internet problem the co. will probably not be able to help you with this.
